Hi all

We have a galaxy 1.9TDI on an 's' plate. She's done 262000 miles (She was a taxi) but is still going strong!

We have a problem with her losing power but thanks to this site hopefully we will be able to sort it!

welcome nai....when she loses power is it intermittant or continuous???i.e.....is she always struggling to pull up hills..lacks oomph..snail crawls faster that type of thing all the time..or is it loses power..switch off..all fine then does it again????

she does it occasionally switch off then she's fine for a bit and you notice it most on hills or over taking.

We disconnected the maf unit and she had no power. We know shes due for a good sevice so going to try that as well.

This has only happened since our weather has been hotter.

Will keep you informed and if u have any ideas it'll be great to hear them!

Thanks

wonder if you have a turbo vane problem - especially in the warm weather switching off and on will reset the limp home mode - have a look in the external links post at the top of tchnical IIRC there is something there on this problem

ahh here the reference

Soooo...when you disconnected the MAF..she was worse???if thats the case its not that..

The lack of power before you switch off..then fine when turned back on..means that she is going into limp mode...Best thing is to get her codes read...then clear em..then read em again and see what stays up...service may help...but im no expert.

Others may have a better clue than me as to what could be causing the limp mode..

I had the same problem again today! I pulled over and switched her off started again and with in 100yards up the road she done the same again. Frustrating!! Especially when i was over taken by a limo, at least i didn't have to worry about speeding!

We've since found that someone before us must of had problems as the pipe behind the air box has been left disconnected after it has been broken and they tried to glue it resulting in the pipe being blocked.

We've spoken to a guy at our local ford dealer who doesn't seem to think that its a turbo problem. So here we go back to the problem solving. Wish us luck!!

Thats the problem.....

This little pipe is the "atmospheric" connection to the TCS - turbo control solenoid. If it is blocked then the turbo vacuum control cannot operate correctly resulting in an over or under boost condition that is picked up by the ECU and immediately trips into "limp home" (no boost) mode. Turning off the ignition resets the mode.

Replace the pipe - I guess you could disconnect it at the TCS end to prove the point, but it should be connected to the airbox to breath filtered air.

we've sorted out the pipe and reconnected it. I've just taken her out and she's running beautifully so hopefully that was it. Thank you all for your help and suggestions. If we couldn't sort her we would of been at a loss as there was no way i was gonna pay silly garage prices with her mileage, but she has lots more left in her yet!
